What does a Spelling Bee solver do?

A Spelling Bee solver takes the seven letters from a hive and returns every word that follows the rules: at least four letters, uses the center letter, and uses nothing outside the hive. Think of it as a word finder built for one specific puzzle. You can use it to double-check a word, find the last two or three answers you're missing, or study the full list after you've played so the words stick for next time.

Because it follows the same rules as the NYT Spelling Bee, it works as an NYT Spelling Bee solver for any day's letters, and as a general unscrambler for any seven letters you want to test.

How to use the solver, step by step

1

Type the center letter

The gold box is the center letter, the one every answer must contain. Typing jumps you to the next box automatically.

2

Add the six outer letters

Order doesn't matter. On a phone, it's often faster to paste all seven letters into the first box.

3

Read or filter the results

Words are grouped by length with their points. Tap a first-letter chip to narrow the list, or switch to Hints only.

Finding the pangram with the solver

Any pangram in your results is highlighted and counted in the summary bar, so you can see how many there are before you look at them. A pangram uses all seven letters and earns a 7-point bonus, which is why it's usually the single biggest jump on the way to Genius. If you'd rather find it yourself, check the count, close the results, and try the method in our guide to finding the pangram fast.

Where the word list comes from

The solver uses a list of roughly 30,000 English words built from open dictionaries, then filtered by how often each word is actually used in American and British English. Proper nouns, abbreviations, hyphenated words and offensive terms are removed.

Words that are valid but uncommon are tagged rare. The official daily puzzle is edited by hand and tends to skip obscure words, so treat rare words as extras rather than expected answers. Our guide on why Spelling Bee rejects real words explains the pattern.

The summary above the results shows the maximum score for your letters. Genius sits at about 70% of that number, and Queen Bee means every word. See every level in Spelling Bee ranks and points.

How to use a solver without ruining the puzzle

  • Open Hints only first. Seeing "CA-3" tells you three words start with CA. That's often enough to find them.
  • Filter one letter at a time. If you're stuck on words starting with T, tap T and look at just that group.
  • Check the count, not the words. Knowing there are two pangrams is a strong clue on its own.
  • Turn any hive into a game. Enter seven letters and press "Play these letters" to practice on a custom puzzle.

Spelling Bee solver FAQ

Does the solver work for today's NYT Spelling Bee?

Yes. Type in today's center letter and outer letters and you'll get every matching word. For the official list, see today's answers page, which updates automatically after the puzzle goes live.

Why are some words marked rare?

They're real dictionary words that most people don't use. The official puzzle usually leaves them out, so they may not count there.

Can I use fewer than 7 letters?

Yes. Enter the center letter plus whatever outer letters you have. Pangrams only show up when all seven letters are filled in.

Does it show only hints?

Yes. Choose Hints only to see word counts by first letter and length plus two-letter starts, with no answers shown.

Can I share a set of letters?

Yes. The page address updates to include your letters (for example ?letters=NACIORT), so you can copy and send it.

Is the solver free?

Yes, with no account and no limit on searches. It works on phones, tablets and Chromebooks.
